MIRRAT terminal is Australia’s top performer
The Melbourne International RoRo & Automotive terminal is recognised for its outstanding customer service at leading shipping industry awards ceremony.
The Melbourne International RoRo & Automotive Terminal (MIRRAT) has scooped the Terminal or Port of the Year prize at the prestigious Daily Cargo News (DCN) Australia Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards.
The win comes as the facility celebrates a successful first full year of operations, in recognition of the team’s ability to absorb a 300% increase in volume and vessel calls through 2017-2018 without a single vessel delay.
MIRRAT general manager Nathan Ullrich and commercial manager Jed Smith received the prize at a glittering awards ceremony held in Melbourne last week. “We’re delighted to receive this honour from the leading event for our industry in Australia,” says Ullrich. “MIRRAT has enjoyed an exceptional first year and this is recognition of the hard work, commitment and dedication from the entire MIRRAT team and our business partners.
“We pride ourselves on customer service, innovation and sustainability, and while we still have work to do, I am very proud of what the team has been able to achieve in the short term.”
At the event, WW Ocean and freight forwarder Fracht also received a ‘Highly Commended’ award in the ‘Excellence in Bulk or Heavy Lift Handling’ category for their work together on the shipment of a 266-tonne generator from Germany to Australia.
David Maggs, NSW and SA sales, WW Ocean, says the award for the latter project recognises the outstanding team effort from both WW Ocean and Fracht: “This was a job well done by all involved – especially the operations teams in Germany and Australia.”
The DCN awards are a key event in the Australian maritime sector calendar. Winners were recognised in 19 categories, ranging from the best in liner trades and ports, to customs broking, environmental excellence and diversity.
